Age-gap relationships between men
Men date across decades. Sometimes it is love and a shared table. Sometimes it is a wallet, a visa, a fantasy, or a man who never got to be a peer. Age-gap relationships are not automatically predatory and they are not automatically cute. The question is power: who can leave, who pays, who teaches, who is afraid.
Stereotypes are lazy
Not every older man is a daddy with a debit card. Not every younger man is a hustler or a victim. Older and younger gay men in the same community is about sharing a scene. This page is about sharing a bed and a lease.
You will get comments. Some of them will be envy. Some will be concern. Learn to tell the difference.
Power is the actual test
Look at money, citizenship, housing, language, who has the friends, who has the closet, who would be believed by police. A 22-year-old without a lease in a 50-year-old's apartment is in a different relationship than two men of 40 and 55 who both have jobs. If one of you cannot leave without losing a country or a roof, slow down and get independent advice.
Mentorship and sex in the same man can get messy. Keep a few adults in your life who are not him.
Harm has tells
Isolation from friends, 'I know better because I lived through AIDS / I know better because the world is new,' threats to out, controlling meds or PrEP, or treating youth as a renewable resource. That is abuse. Domestic abuse in relationships between men.
A good age-gap relationship looks boring from the outside: two names on the bills, two sets of friends, sex that can be refused, a future that is not a secret.
Be a peer even if you are not the same age
Talk about health, money, and what happens if he dies first. That is love, not a morbid kink. Unite Gay Network is mixed-age on purpose. Join and do not let your only intergenerational contact be a fetish grid. Community is wider than the couple. Keep it that way.
