Body image, gym culture, and eating issues

Gay and bisexual men's scenes can treat bodies like currency: gym photos, 'no fats,' ages that expire, a six-pack as a personality. Wanting to be strong or healthy is fine. Living inside a ranking system that never lets you eat in public is not a lifestyle. This page names body image harm, steroid pressure, and disordered eating without pretending every gym is a clinic.

The standard is a product

Apps, porn, and door policies train your eye. Then you turn that eye on yourself. Masculinity, camp, and the pressure to pass and Bear, otter, twink, and other body tribes are part of the same machine. You can enjoy a look without signing up for a caste system.

If your week is organised around how you will look with your shirt off on Saturday, ask whether you are training or whether you are punishing.

Eating issues in men get missed

Restricting, bingeing, purging, obsessive 'clean' eating, and chewing-and-spitting are not teenage-girl problems. Men hide them in meal prep and cutting phases. If food fear, weighing multiple times a day, or disappearing after meals is the plot, talk to a clinician who knows men's eating disorders. Do not ask a group chat to diet-coach you out of it.

HIV, diabetes, and gut issues can also change weight. Get medical facts before you adopt a new shame story.

Steroids and 'just a cycle'

Image-enhancing drugs are common in some gyms. They are not harmless: hormones, fertility, mood, heart, and injection risk if gear is shared or unclean. This is not a how-to. If you use, tell a doctor you trust (sexual health and GP) because lying about it makes every other treatment guesswork.

Peer pressure dressed as 'everyone does it' is still pressure. You can walk out of a gym.

A body that can have a life

Strength, sport, and looking after a long-term body (joints, heart, meds) are different goals from a photo. Mental health for gay and bisexual men belongs next to this page. Community that is not a physique contest exists: community centres, hiking, choirs, leather nights that care more about conduct than abs. Try the Locations Finder and join a network that will still want you if the six-pack leaves.
